artwork by LTCC student Ian Powers, called "Diptera"The entire community is welcome to Lake Tahoe Community College’s Annual Student Art Exhibition opening reception on Sunday, May 21 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the LTCC Commons, located in the Main Building on campus. An awards ceremony honoring the winners starts at 3:30 p.m. There will be approximately 400 works of student art on display, ranging from digital art to printmaking to sculpture. Live music and free refreshments will also be offered. All of the artwork displayed represents student production over the past year. Much of the work reflects LTCC Art Department curriculum, but the exhibit also includes works created independently by many talented LTCC students of all ages.

The work submitted for this exhibition will be juried for special honors in 17 different categories. First, second, and third prizes as well as honorable mentions will be awarded in each category. A “Best of Show” recognition will also be awarded for the one work of art found to be the most outstanding according to the juror. This year’s guest juror is professional photographer Frances Melhop.

Various cash awards will also be given for outstanding achievement. These awards are donated by local businesses that support LTCC students’ artistic endeavors. Anyone who attends the opening reception is also welcome to cast their ballot for the “People’s Choice Award,” in honor of a single artwork that deserves special recognition.

This exhibition is free and open to the public during regular college business hours through Saturday, June 15. For more information, please call (530) 541-4660 ext. 335.
