Apply for Financial Aid
Find step-by-step instructions for completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the California Dream Act (CADAA), the California Promise Grant, and the Lake Tahoe College Promise application. We strongly recommend all students submit a FAFSA or CADAA — if you don't apply, you may miss funding you're eligible to receive.

Federal & State Financial Aid (FAFSA)
In most cases, applying for financial aid starts with submitting the FAFSA. We encourage all students to apply as soon as possible — it's free. Follow the steps below to get started.
LTCC Federal School Code: 012907
For U.S. Citizens and Permanent Legal Residents (Green Card Holders, Refugees, etc.)
1. Create your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. This gives you access to federal financial aid systems and serves as your legal signature on electronic documents.
- Everyone who contributes information on the FAFSA needs their own FSA ID. For example, if you are a dependent student, both you and at least one parent will each need a separate FSA ID.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.
- LTCC Federal School Code: 012907
- When applicable, invite your "contributors" (parents or spouse) to obtain their own FSA ID and complete their section of the FAFSA.
- To invite contributors, you will need their:
- Email address
- Name as used on their tax return (if they filed one)
- Social Security Number (SSN), if they have one
- All contributors must have an FSA ID.
- Mixed family status (e.g., contributors without SSNs) can now submit a FAFSA.
- All contributors must give consent to pull IRS tax return information. Without consent from all contributors, the FAFSA is invalid and you will not be eligible for federal aid.
- All contributors must complete their section before the FAFSA can be submitted.

California Dream Act
The California Dream Act allows undocumented and nonresident documented students who meet certain provisions to apply for and receive private scholarships funded through public universities, state-administered financial aid, university grants, community college fee waivers, and Cal Grants.
The CA Dream Act Application (CADAA), also known as the Dream Application, is for undocumented students who meet the eligibility requirements of AB540. The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) processes the application; aid received can only be used at eligible California public or private institutions.
-
Complete the California Dream Act Application. Have these ready:
- Tax returns and W-2/1099 forms (yours and your parent's, if you are under 24)
- LTCC School Code: 012907
- Within 3 weeks, you will receive your CA Student Aid Report (CA-SAR). If you provided an email address, it will arrive by email. It lists the information from your application and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). LTCC also receives the report electronically and will request any additional forms needed to complete your file. Review your CA-SAR for accuracy. To make corrections, return to the California Dream Act website and update immediately. Allow 1–2 weeks for LTCC to receive corrected information. Save the form for your records if no changes are needed.
-
Once you receive the CA-SAR, check your application status in PASSPORT for any additional forms required:
- Log in to PASSPORT
- Select "LTCC Self-Service"
- Choose "Financial Aid"
- Any additional required forms will appear on your Checklist
- If your mailing address changes at any time, submit a Demographic Change of Info form to Enrollment Services.
