Information for Immigration Activities on Campus

Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and transparent campus environment for all students, regardless of immigration status. The following information outlines LTCC’s policies, practices, and resources that support undocumented students and employees, and provides guidance on what to do in the event of immigration enforcement activity on campus.

LTCC provides an equity-minded and anti-racist college environment that fosters inclusion, cultural awareness, and mutual understanding and respect for all students (Board Policy 7100). As an open-access institution, LTCC serves all students—regardless of immigration status, gender, or other protected classes—consistent with Board Policy 3410.

In alignment with the California Values Act (SB 54), LTCC has procedures that protect student information, limit access to immigration status data, and ensure appropriate responses to law enforcement information requests (Board Policy 5040).

Recent legislation, including Senate Bill 98, requires California colleges to communicate transparently when immigration enforcement officers enter campus. LTCC has developed a communication plan to ensure compliance with this law and to protect the rights and privacy of all students and employees.

If approached by immigration enforcement officers

1. Notify: Contact the President’s Office immediately if you become aware that an immigration officer is expected or has entered campus. If no one is available, contact a Vice President or member of the Senior Leadership Team.
2. Assess and Communicate: The President’s Office will assess the information and, consistent with law and campus policy, verify and communicate appropriate details.
3. Document: Provide the President’s Office with all available details, including time, location, officer name or credentials, and nature of any requests.
4. Escort: If appropriate, escort officers to the President’s Office. If you are not comfortable doing so, contact Security at 530-721-6188 x220 for assistance.

After Hours: Contact Security, who will notify the President and other appropriate officials.

Students: If you need assistance, please approach any LTCC employee to assist you. LTCC employees will follow the process outlined above.

Reminder: FERPA Requirements

All LTCC employees must adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which protects the privacy of student educational records and personally identifiable information.

Required Notification Under SB 98

If immigration enforcement is confirmed on campus by the President’s Office, LTCC will notify the campus community through an all-campus email and/or LTCC Alerts. Notifications will include the date, time, and location of the confirmed presence.

Resources for Undocumented Students

LTCC provides ongoing education and outreach in support of undocumented students. Resources include materials from the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC), such as “Red Cards,” which outline individual rights and protections. Learn more at https://www.ilrc.org/red-cards.

Si un agente de inmigración se acerca a usted

2. Evalúe y Comuníquese: La Oficina de la Presidencia evaluará la información y comunicará los detalles apropiados conforme a la ley y las políticas del campus.
3. Documente: Proporcione todos los detalles disponibles: hora, ubicación, nombre o credenciales del agente y motivo de cualquier solicitud.
4. Acompañe: Si es apropiado, acompañe a los agentes a la Oficina de la Presidencia. Si no se siente cómodo, contacte a Seguridad al 530-721-6188 x220.

Fuera de horario: Comuníquese con Seguridad, quienes notificarán a la Presidencia y al personal correspondiente.

Recordatorio sobre FERPA
