Health Meta Major IconThe Emergency Medical Responder course at Lake Tahoe Community College provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) by helping to sustain life, reduce pain, and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced medical help takes over. Course content and activities will prepare participants to make appropriate decisions about the care to provide in a medical emergency. The course meets or exceeds the Emergency Medical Services Educational Standards for Emergency Medical Responders and is consistent with the current guidelines for first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation care. Successful students will receive two certification cards: American Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder and American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers.

This course meets and exceeds the prerequisites for both Emergency Medical Technician (HEA 140C) and Lake Tahoe Basin Fire Academy, Part 1 (FIR 170A).
