If you are undecided about your major or career goal, please take advantage of the various career exploration and planning services offered at Lake Tahoe Community College:
Individual Career Counseling
Make an appointment to meet with our career counselor, Esta Lewin, to discuss your issues and concerns about majors and careers. Depending on your situation or need, she may ask you take appropriate assessments described below. Often, just talking through ones thoughts is helpful in clarifying ones direction. Research has shown that students with clear goals are more likely to stay in school and be successful in working toward those goals.
Interest, Abilities, Values, and Personality Assessment
We have a variety of career assessments available that will help you know yourself and how your unique constellation of interests, abilities, values and temperament align with the world of work. Whether you are undecided and looking for options, or simply needing an affirmation that a career or major suits you, these assessments will help.
Career Search Workshops
Each fall and winter quarter, we offer a career search workshop using MyPlan in conjunction with TRUE COLORS (a personality and temperament system). In the spring, we offer Job Hunting 101, a workshop which will give you the tools you need to get the job you really want.
Career and Life Planning
This four unit, CSU transferable course (COU 108) meets a general education requirement on both the LTCC and CSU general education patterns. It is offered face to face each fall and online in winter and spring. This course provides comprehensive career/life planning for students unclear about their academic or career goals. Topics include researching careers and majors both through Internet sources and informational interviews, decision-making and goal-setting, developing a career action plan, and preparing effectively for employment and lifelong learning in a global economy.
