Leave and Holidays
A leave of absence is an authorization for an employee to be absent from duty for a specific period of time and for an approved purpose. There are several types of leaves employees may utilize that very by administrator, faculty, director, confidential, or classified employee. The following defines a few of the more commen leaves utilized by employees.
Sick Leave
Sick leave is paid time off from work that workers can use to stay home to address their health needs without losing pay. It differs from paid vacation time or time off work to deal with personal matters, because sick leave is intended for health-related purposes.
Each administrator, director, full-time faculty, confidential, and classified employee is entitled to one day of sick leave per month. Earned sick leave is accumulated as provided by State law and Board policy. Sick leave is front loaded each July and available for employees to use immediately.
Part-time Faculty are entitled to .64 hours sick leave credit for each WTCH (weekly teacher contact hour) per quarter. WTCH is calculated as though the class is offered over a regular quarter even if the class is offered in other time frames. Part-time hourly academic employees (nonteaching) will receive 0.046 hours sick leave for each hour worked.
Part-time Temporary employees are earn one hour of paid sick leave for each 30 hours of work.
Vacation Leave
Vacation leave is defined as a leave of absence with pay for the purpose of rest, relaxation, or personal business at the request of the employee and with the concurrence with the employer. Administrators, directors, confidential, and classified employees acrue vacation leave at various rates as defined below.

Holiday Calender
All probationary or permanent employees shall be entitled to the following seventeen paid holidays provided they are in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.
