What's Left Behind
David Burke
David Burke creates large fractured landscapes where industry and nature either coexist or collide. "What's Left Behind" shows "Building Blocks" for the first time in the United States. Burke painted the series in Rome 26 years ago for his master's thesis exhibition at Tyler School of Art. After that show, the paintings stayed boxed for decades. He opened the boxes this summer.
The exhibition hangs the early series next to the later work it led to. That includes forests growing through pipelines, ink drawings of mutated animals, paintings made inside a Montana copper mine, and toxic playgrounds.
"The seeds of your practice get planted early, often before you know what you're growing," Burke wrote in his artist statement.

About the Gallery
Lake Tahoe Community College is home to several modern, brightly lit exhibition spaces that provide opportunities for our Art Department students to showcase their talents and for visiting artists from the surrounding region to share their works and knowledge with the entire community.
LTCC hosts at least four professional art exhibits each year, all free to explore, plus an LTCC Student Art Show each Spring. All of these shows are open to the public, and they often include free artist talks that allow LTCC’s art students and the entire community to engage, learn together, and share artistic expertise.
