Social Media Guidelines

Purpose

Social media provides Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) with a unique opportunity to engage with our community, foster dialogue, and build meaningful connections with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the public. This policy encourages transparent, respectful, and inclusive communication that reflects LTCC’s mission and values. It also offers guidance to ensure that all college-affiliated and personal use of social media contributes positively to the LTCC community.

Scope

This policy applies to all members of the LTCC community–students, faculty, staff, departments, and organizations–who engage on social media in connection with the college. It includes both official LTCC-affiliated accounts and personal accounts when representing the college in any form.

Guiding Principles

  • Respectful Communication: All posts should reflect respect, equity, and professionalism.

  • Confidentiality: Do not disclose private or proprietary information.
  • Legal Compliance: Follow all applicable laws and college policies.

Official LTCC Social Media Accounts

Only authorized LTCC employees may create or manage official LTCC social media accounts. Credentials must be shared with the Public Information Office (PIO), which oversees branding and messaging.

Personal Use of Social Media

When using personal accounts, make it clear that views expressed are your own. Avoid content that may negatively reflect on LTCC.
