Mass Casualty Incident Training Exercise at LTCC & Barton Hospital
Head's up, Coyotes and LTCC neighbors! A large-scale safety training exercise is taking place on LTCC's campus today from 1pm-4pm, bringing together a number of public safety and first responder personnel, equipment, and vehicles.
They are partaking in an exercise scenario that simulates a collapsed stage at an outdoor concert. This training exercise will take place on the grass fields close to Al Tahoe Blvd., with a media-only access area located near the snack shack that separates the grass fields from LTCC's synthetic turf soccer field.
Spectators are not permitted during this exercise. No students will be involved, and the event is taking place on the grass fields to minimize impacts on students and LTCC staff and faculty.
This exercise could result in some noise that potentially affects campus and surrounding neighborhoods. A designated group of emergency personnel will use emergency vehicles to transport "patient" actors to Barton Memorial Hospital during the exercise.
Barton Health, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescure, Cal Tahoe JPA, and other local responders are participating in this community-wide training exercise. It's part of an ongoing effort to promote emergency preparedness to keep our community safe, and to challenge public safety agencies with a realistic training scenario. There are NO specific current threats to any local neighborhoods, schools, or hospitals.
