Meet Bay Area artist Kathy Aoki & check out her solo exhibit, "Beauty Essentials: Artifacts from the Museum of Historical Makeovers," located in the Haldan Art Gallery inside the library building on campus. Kathy will lead a free Artist Talk at 5:30pm. Enjoy light refreshments and mingle with your fellow art appreciators! All are welcome, and as always, LTCC's art exhibits are free and open to the entire community. This exhibit will remain open until June 23, 2017.
Aoki addresses gender and pop-culture issues through approachable visual formats with a twist of humor. Installations of her current body of work, collectively entitled "The Museum of Historical Makeovers," are presented in the context of an ersatz beauty history museum. Aoki’s work can be found in major collections across the U.S. such as the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Harvard University Art Museums, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Past awards include fellowships from the MacDowell Colony (NH), the Headlands Center for the Arts (CA), and the Frans Masereel Centrum (Belgium). Aoki lives and works in the Silicon Valley where she is an Associate Professor of Studio Art at Santa Clara University. Explore Kathy's work on her website.
