LTCC's New Mentorship Program Exceeds Expectations
Pilot program earns 100% recommendation rate from participants
Lake Tahoe Community College's inaugural Classified Staff and Director Mentorship Program wrapped up this month with outstanding results, reinforcing the college's commitment to being a top employer in the Tahoe Basin.
The six-month pilot program paired new employees with experienced mentors for monthly group sessions and one-on-one meetings focused on professional development and campus culture. Topics ranged from leadership and communication skills to institutional navigation and conflict resolution.
Results That Speak for Themselves
Program participants were enthusiastic about their experience:
- Overall satisfaction: 4.6 out of 5
- Mentor satisfaction: 4.8 out of 5
- 60% completed their professional goals, with 40% making ongoing progress
- 100% would recommend the program to colleagues
The most popular sessions focused on practical leadership skills and the "LTCC: How do I..." institutional navigation workshop, with participants asking for even more time to dive deeper into these topics.
Growing the Program
Based on the pilot's success, LTCC is making the mentorship program a permanent annual offering for all new employees. The second cohort is anticipated to launch in October 2025, with enhanced features including longer sessions and more peer networking opportunities.
The program was funded through an Equal Employment Opportunities grant from the California Community College Chancellor's Office, with future cohorts supported through local funding and additional grants.
"This program represents our investment in not just hiring great people, but supporting their long-term success at LTCC," said President DeFranco during the completion celebration.
