CalWORKs

What is CalWORKs?
California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids is a federally mandated program designed to assist parents receiving Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF).

Who is Eligible?
Any student that is currently receiving adult cash aid (TANF) and is in good standing, who has, or who is developing, a Welfare-to-Work Plan with the Department of Human Services.

 
IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY RECEIVING TANF, AND ARE LOW-INCOME WITH DEPENDENT CHILDREN, PLEASE CONTACT THE CalWORKs STAFF BEFORE YOU APPLY. STUDENTS WHO ARE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL PRIOR TO GOING ON WELFARE MAY HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL RIGHTS.

How to Apply?
Please contact Student Services to schedule an appointment or call directly at (530)541-4660 ext.318. You will be required to show verification of current TANF benefits (e.g. Notice of Action), or a letter of referral from the Department of Human Services.

  • Paid work-study jobs (earnings do not affect the amount of your cash grant)
  • Child care vouchers for class and study time
  • Workshops to achieve and maintain employment skills
  • Financial Aid Assistance
  • Educational Planning
  • Advocacy and accompaniment for meetings with your case worker
  • Community and Campus resource referrals.
