Internship

Career Preparation/Academic Alignment/Exploratory

An Internship is a quarterly academic program involving an on-the-job placement the student earns via preparation and interviews.A successful Internship is based on professionalism and performance to measurable work site learning objectives directly related to the student's career goals. If a student is interested in exploring careers, an internship can also provide this. Internships are usually non-paid (unless otherwise noted) and offer flexible hours to allow for the student's academic schedule.

Key Reasons to do an Internship:

  • Strengthen Resume
  • Career Marketability
  • Combine Academic and Practical
  • Problem Solve in Real Work Environment
  • Exchange Ideas with Professionals
  • Explore Career Options
  • Gain Professional Competencies
  • Mentor-ship
  • Networking
  • Earn Academic Credit

How to Apply? Follow STEPS 1-5 to get started:

  1. Complete the Internship Application
  2. Obtain copy (unofficial) of transcripts
  3. Update or create a resume.
  4. Contact the department to set up interview time with instructor.
  5. Bring application, transcripts and resume to your interview with instructor.

Note: The Internship office operates on a part-time basis and internship appointments must be scheduled. Plan to get started soon because an Internship can take weeks to coordinate.

Internship Opportunities include (not limited to the following): Business (Social Media, Website, Management, Administrative, Marketing, Communications, Non-Profit), Environmental, Criminal Justice, Health and Fitness, Education, Fire and Forest and more.

To view a sampling of Internship Opportunities (more info. on file with Instructor) that Lake Tahoe Community College presents to our students in partnership with our South Shore community. This listing can trigger additional ideas for students to work with the Instructor to customize their Internship experience. Some partners list more than one opportunity.

A recent study conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers found that employers extended job offers to 70% of their interns.” (source: http://cacareerbriefs.com/career-cafe/get-experience/)
