Foster and Kinship Care Education

California-Cmty-College

FKCE Mission

FKCE provides FREE classes and trainings for Foster care and Kinship care (relative or non-relative) providers in South Lake Tahoe. Our programs are designed to engage and educate Foster and Kinship Care providers so that these providers may meet the educational, emotional, behavioral and developmental needs of our children and youth. Training topics cover a wide range of subjects including parenting skills, child development, behavioral issues, child abuse and neglect, developmental issues, teen issues such as gangs and sexuality, and many other relevant community issues.

LTCC offers non-credit trainings in Foster and Kinship Care Education in both Spanish and English! Anyone is welcome to attend and no registration is necessary.

SPANISH TRAININGS are held EVERY Tuesday & Wednesday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Family Resource Center located on the Bijou School campus at 3501 Spruce Avenue. Free childcare and food available!

ENGLISH TRAININGS are held approximately once a month on Monday nights from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community College's Aspen Room. Free refreshments and snacks provided.

Please contact us for upcoming training dates or to get on our emailing list.

Become a FOSTER PARENT!

Lake Tahoe is in critical need of foster homes to support our community's most vulnerable children. Today, there are over 70 local foster children placed in foster homes "off the hill" as far as five hours away because of the shortage of local foster homes. These children not only experience the trauma of being mistreated and removed from their homes, but also the trauma of being removed from their school, neighborhood and all semblance of familiarity…What a tragedy!

Contact any of the following agencies to find out more information on how to become a licensed foster home in Lake Tahoe. They are waiting for your call!

Foster Family Service: Megan Ciampa - (530) 541-2111

Koininia Family Services: Denny Stewart - (530) 541-1870

You are also welcome, to learn more! Help MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
