Dental Assisting
Dental Assistants work as team members along with dentists and dental hygienists to perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties.
They prepare patients for treatment and examinations and assure that dental records, supplies, and instruments are ready for the dentist to use. They help dentists at the chair side by handling instruments and materials to the dentist, keeping patients comfortable and relaxed. They also prepare patients for x-ray, take x-rays, process films, sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, take impressions, and instruct patients in post-treatment care.
The Dental Assisting Program at Lake Tahoe Community College consists of three courses. The radiology curriculum is approved by the California Board of Dental Examiners and successful students earn a Radiation Safety Certificate, which is required to work in a California dental office.
