Programs

Lake Tahoe Community College provides a variety of nontraditional learning opportunities through courses, intensive institutes, and chances to study in other countries.

These programs are unique and many emphasize hands-on learning experiences. Also some of these programs target particular learners for enriching educational experiences.

Programs include:

Child Development Center is a fully licensed childcare facility located on the Lake Tahoe Community College campus. Licensed for 46 children aged 6 weeks through pre-kindergarten or 6 years, the CDC is a model facility for Early Childhood Education students. The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, NAEYC.

Customer Service Training: LTCC has partnered with the local Chamber of Commerce to deliver customer service classes designed specifically for the Tahoe workforce.

Foster and Kinship Care Education: This program is designed for people who care for the children of their relatives.

Intensive Spanish Summer Institute: Each August, LTCC is transformed into a Mexican pueblo offering students an immersion in Spanish language and culture. This exciting and interactive program has been recognized as an Outstanding Community College Program by the California Community College Board of Governors.

Study Abroad: LTCC offers quarter-length study abroad programs and shorter length trips throughout the year. Students can also earn college credit taking two and three week Spanish courses in Spain and Mexico through the Foreign Language Institutes.

Kids' College:  Children 8 and up can take classes in many subject areas including science, foreign languages, drama, art, sports, computers, and more. Classes vary in length and run from the end of June through the middle of August.

Wilderness Education: Our courses challenge students to learn not only from books but also from the natural landscape. From sunset sea kayaking to ski mountaineering to whitewater river descents, wilderness classes at LTCC often meet beyond the classroom.
