LTCC Student-Vet Receiving New Wheels from Recycled Rides

May 22, 2017

LTCC and Recycled Rides invites the South Shore community to a special event where the keys to a refurbished vehicle will be awarded to one deserving LTCC student-veteran. The awarding ceremony takes place Friday, May 26 at 12 p.m. outdoors in the college’s Main Building courtyard area. Free barbecue and refreshments will be served, and all are welcome to attend.

Military veteran and LTCC student Amber Wade will be the recipient of a refurbished four-wheel drive SUV, thanks to a generous donation from State Farm Insurance and the efforts of Recycled Rides, a nationwide group of volunteers who repair and donate vehicles to veterans and other individuals and service organizations. All of LTCC’s currently enrolled student-veterans were invited to write a short essay describing what owning a car would mean to them, and Wade’s winning essay was selected from these entries by the staff of LTCC’s Veterans Resource Center.

Recycled Rides is a unique program that brings car insurers, collision repairers, paint suppliers, parts vendors and others in collaboration to repair and donate vehicles to deserving individuals and service organizations in local communities throughout the country. More than 1,000 vehicles have already been donated through the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides program since its launch in 2007.
