Visiting Artist: Tamara Scronce

UNR Art Dept. faculty member Tamara Scronce is hosting a free artist talk and demo of her work on Friday June 8 at 5:30pm in Room F101, located in the Fine Arts building on the campus of Lake Tahoe Community College. All are welcome to this event! Space will be limited, so please arrive early to secure your spot.

Scronce’s major areas of interest are sculpture, installation art, and video. Born and raised in Reno, she attended graduate school at the University of Illinois, Chicago and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Scronce completed her Master of Fine Arts degree in 1997 and moved home to join the faculty at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2000. She earned tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor of Art in 2006-07.

In addition to teaching, Scronce also directs the John Ben Snow Sculpture Center. She was awarded UNR's Outstanding Graduate Advisor Award in 2016, and she has been honored with two College of Liberal Arts teaching excellence awards, in 2007 and again in 2016. In 2017 she was awarded the F. Donald Tibbitts Distinguished Teaching Award. Scronce is currently serving as interim director of the School of the Arts. She teaches all levels of sculpture in addition to MFA and BFA studio art and critique practice courses.

Scronce's work has been exhibited in solo, group, and juried exhibitions, and she has participated in a number of collaborative art projects. She has been honored with awards in juried exhibitions and has received several artists’ grants in support of her work, including the distinguished Nevada Arts Council Artist Fellowship Award, and the Sierra Arts Foundation Artist Grant.
