The horticulture courses at Lake Tahoe Community College focus on the principles and practices of horticulture with a special emphasis on hardy plants suitable for high-altitude climates, their maintenance, and winter protection. Students also learn about the history of landscape architecture, design principles, drawing techniques, site analysis, irrigation concepts, construction and implementation methods, and how to develop planting plans.  Special topics courses are frequently offered on contemporary horticulture and landscaping issues such as fountain design, gardening on the "wild side", Best Management Practices (BMPs), etc.
